When it comes to the month of June, I tend to think of changes. We change from snow, cold, and rainy weather to warm sunshine, flip flops, and beautiful flowers and trees. There are graduations and weddings with more homes on the market in June per real estate websites such as Zillow. So June is very much a month of change and transition.
Genesis 2:24-25 tells of the change of a man leaving his mother and a woman leaving her home. Children leaving home or even following family as did Ruth follow Naomi from the land of Moab. In Exodus 12 we learn of an entire nation leaving slavery to follow Moses to the Promised Land. Exodus 12:37-14:41 tells of their panic.
The Bible tells of many more instances regarding change and leaving a life we are accustomed to. Though most of us never have the blinding light on the road to Damascus occur, the message we have been given is pretty much the same as the message given to Paul. Jesus gives pretty clear instructions in Mark 16:15 that we are to “Go.” To be able to go, we must first leave. And that my dear friends involves a change.
Some embrace change and welcome the chance to do something new and different. But, most of us fear change and have concrete poured around our ankles to keep from moving from our spot. However, notice the word I just used, “fear”. That is what it all boils down to. We are afraid of what that change may be that God is asking us to make. However, we have to remember that over and over in the Bible, he tells us not to fear. Over and over we are given the assurance that He is with us. Philippians 4:13 tells us we have His strength to do anything. Christ would never ask us to make a change unless He is going to be there with us; no matter, the change he is asking us to make. It may be nothing more than to change a habit. It could be a change of a job. God may be asking you to change your city, your state, even your country. But the first thing that will need to change, is your heart and then your mind will change as well. After all, God is already where He wants you to go.
